The days that followed wove themselves into a quiet rhythm, each one carrying Marina
and Gabriel closer to a truth neither dared to name.

Every afternoon, when the air grew softer and the sky blushed with color, they found
themselves walking the shoreline together. Sometimes they talked — about books
Marina had read, about cities Gabriel had seen — and sometimes they simply walked in
silence, listening to the hum of waves and cicadas.

One evening, as the sun dipped lower, Marina carried a basket of mangoes and bread
wrapped in banana leaves. “Merenda,” she explained with a smile. “A simple snack.
You can’t keep taking photos on an empty stomach.”

Gabriel laughed, breaking the bread in half and handing her a piece. “Best meal
I’ve had in weeks.”

They sat on a driftwood log, watching the horizon where the sky burned orange and
crimson. The light gilded Marina’s face, and Gabriel caught himself studying her
profile too long. He raised his camera, then hesitated.

“You don’t mind?” he asked.

Marina rolled her eyes, pretending to be annoyed. “You’re obsessed with pictures.”

“Not with pictures,” he corrected softly. “With moments.”

Her laughter faded, replaced by a silence that was heavier, more fragile. She
shifted, brushing sand from her skirt. “And what happens to those moments when
you leave? Do they stay in your camera forever?”

The question caught him. He looked down at his hands, the bread forgotten.
“I don’t know. Maybe I keep moving because I’m afraid of losing them.”

Marina’s chest tightened at the honesty in his voice. She wanted to ask more, to
reach past the walls he carried, but the sky was already fading into twilight.

They stood as the tide crept closer, waves licking at their toes. For a brief
second, their hands brushed. Neither pulled away.

The world hushed, the sea whispering against the sand, the sun bowing down to night.

Between sunsets, something delicate had begun to grow — fragile yet unbreakable,
like light itself.

And Marina knew that every evening they shared was leading to a moment she could no
longer deny.
