A ripple appeared again, stronger this time. Shadows seemed to move unnaturally within it, like the air itself had weight.
Nysera frowned. “This isn’t just a signal anymore. It’s almost… deliberate. It’s studying us, learning our responses.”
Ahorin clenched his fists. “Sylith.” The name left his lips quietly, almost a warning to himself.

Ysera’s sensors pulsed. “Confirmed. Pattern analysis matches intelligence signature identified in preliminary data. Presence is not passive.”
The wind shifted sharply, carrying no sound but an unshakable feeling of scrutiny.
Nysera’s scanner beeped again. “It’s trying to influence the local energy network. Whatever it is, it’s testing the limits of the artifact’s connection.”
Ahorin’s eyes narrowed. “So it knows about the artifact. And it wants control.”
Ysera’s tone was flat, precise. “Probability: high. Threat level: emergent. Recommendation: maintain position, assess behavior, avoid engagement until strategy is clear.”
The shadow in the ripple coalesced subtly, almost humanoid, before dissolving again—leaving the team unsure of what they’d just seen.
Nysera’s voice lowered, tense. “It’s patient. Calculating. Not attacking yet… but it will.”
Ahorin nodded. “Then we need to be ready before it decides to strike.”
Another ripple appeared to the side, darker, more solid this time.
